The last Gestalt Law in our set is called Regularity, sometimes referred to as Rhythm elsewhere. It is concerned with the pattern of repetition evident in neighbouring elements and whether that pattern is consistent enough for the elements to be conceptually grouped together. That is why it is sometimes called Rhythm also, because the intervals at which the repetition recurr should have some form of regularity or relationship, constituting an arrival of elements akin to a "beat". Take the example below;
Configurations A through C demonstrate a declining Regularity, where the previously tight and consistent regularity of the space between elements (A) is progressively staggered and broken or becomes disproportionate (C). What is interesting in these figures is how clearly we can see our ability to neatly categorise the blocks as belonging to one group/cluster begins to disintegrate as the organisation of space between them varies. This is not simple Proximity at play, the Regularity is attributing the variation in rotation between the blocks too and, as evidenced in configuration B, the inconsistency of their alignment to a grid.
