MODULE: Colour perception

Step 08 of 09: Colour induction

In a similar fashion, by a process known as Colour induction, the immediate neighbours of colours can impact what colours we see, like the grey rings in a previous example. The following example shows another Professor KITAOKA illusion demonstrating colour induction, where colours are perceived despite not being present. The girls blue eye is actually grey in the following image, it is only perceived as blue due to the lateral impact of the contrast between the red surrounding area. Only the hair clip in the image is actually blue. Colorimetric Research, such as that conducted by Arne VALBERG (1973) with the Optical Society of America, confirms this ability of colours in close proximity to impact a desaturated focal point despite an inherent lack of colour.
